On May 27, 2022, through Decree 275/2022, the Executive Power of the Nation delegated to the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development the obligations and powers determined by Law 13,064, and its amendments, for the execution of works included on the international financing programs regarding environment, climate change and environmental preservation matters, administered by such Ministry.
The delegation corresponds to the necessity of useful mechanisms for environmental risks minimization, the environment protection and diverse mitigation, prevention and adaptation measures to Climate Change.
Decree 481/03 named the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development as the Enforcement Authority of the “General Environmental Law”, in order to ensure the protection of the environment and compliance with the aforementioned law. The “Kyoto Protocol” as well as the “United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change”, both international treaties ratified by Argentina, introduced the “Adaptation Fund to finance projects and programs for adaptation to climate change in developing countries” and the “Global Environment Fund” respectively, which proceeded to designate the aforementioned Ministry as the competent National Authority.
