Ibero-American Charter of Online Principles and Rights

On March 25, the XXVII Ibero-American Summit approved the Ibero-American Charter of Online Principles and Rights, as an initiative through which countries commit themselves to cooperate and adapt their domestic legislation in force in physical environments to the particularities of the digital world.

The Charter acknowledges the importance of digital systems having the appropriate security measures to guarantee the protection and privacy of the personal data of the individuals that interact in them.

Moreover, the Charter highlights the potential of digital systems as means to achieve greater economic, social and cultural inclusion, while promoting the education in cybersecurity matters for all people.

Cooperation and exchange among Ibero-American countries becomes essential for the development of public policies aimed at strengthening countries’ and individuals’ security, as well as in addressing topical issues such as digital inheritance and secondary use of existing data.
