“Environment + Diversity” Program

On March 9th, 2022, the so called: ENVIRONMENT + DIVERSITY Program (the “Program”) was enacted within the scope of the Interjurisdictional and Interinstitutional Undersecretariat of the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development.

The Program’s purpose is to mainstream the gender and diversity perspective in the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development and in the National Parks Administration, as well as in the projects and programs supported by these agencies.

Regarding the project aims, they are focused on “strengthening the incorporation of the Gender and Diversity Perspective in the design and implementation of environmental public policies; promotion, training and dissemination”, with the objective of raising awareness about the importance of the gender and diversity approach in environmental and sustainable development issues, in accordance with the different regional and environmental realities. Another lines of work, are the “networking with other actors, both public and civil society,” to promote environmental actions with a gender and diversity perspective. Finally, in direct articulation with the General Directorate of Human Resources of this Ministry, are the “promotion of an inclusive human resources policy, gender parity and permanence of women and diversities” in the workplace. Among its actions are “the monitoring of gender training for agents as well as for civil servants; protocols and regulations aimed at preventing, punishing and eradicating gender-based violence within the agency; internal dissemination campaigns to promote the use of leave in an equitable manner; as well as the monitoring of the evolution of gender gaps in access to professional and management positions within the agency and the implementation of the Transvestite-Trans Labor Quota Law.”

The Program also contemplates a policy oriented to accompany and provide the necessary instruments so that other areas of the agency, as well as external actors, may incorporate and strengthen the gender and diversity perspective as a cross-cutting component in the design and execution of their public policies.

On the other hand, the Program counts with 4 lines of action foreseen, in order to carrying out its implementation:

Production of information, follow-up and development of indicators for the incorporation of the Gender and Diversity Perspective in the design and implementation of environmental public policies.

Training, promotion and sensitization on gender, environment and sustainable development.

Strengthening of spaces for articulation and coordination of actions with other agencies and actors.

Promotion and monitoring of an inclusive human resources policy, gender parity and permanence of women and diversities in the workplace.

Finally, regarding the Program’s implementation a technical work team will be allocated to bring together members of different hierarchical levels of the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, the National Parks Administration, and the Federal Environmental Council. This team will be organized in work commissions and will meet periodically to coordinate actions and avoid overlapping or replicating tasks within the areas.
